Harry Potter: A Transmedia Narrative

Today it is common for narratives to be spread across numerous channels which are referred to as interfaces and may include books, television, comics and websites. Through these interfaces, the audience can interact further with the narrative and individuals may take a different experience from whichever interface they view the narrative on. These interfaces allow for the narrative to grow across these channels, therefore making the narrative a transmedia narrative as the story isn’t restricted to one platform.

To explain this further, I have chosen to talk about transmedia narratives using the Harry Potter franchise as an example. Harry Potter is a perfect example of a transmedia narrative as it started off as a book then grew to also include (but not limited to) eight movies, six more books, theme parks and a website,  Pottermore.

Here is a podcast from myself which goes a little more in depth about the transmedia narrative of Harry Potter.

Also a video I liked about this topic!
